High winds may have been the cause of power outages on St. Croix Monday on feeders 2, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 10.
The unusually high winds were followed by a large volume of trouble calls to the Water and Power Authority, according to WAPA spokeswoman Patricia Blake Simmonds.
The authority is investigating the cause of the problems on feeder 10, which led to the outages.
On St. Thomas a surge early Tuesday caused problems at the East End substation at around 3 a.m. Power was restored to feeders 5 and 6 by 6 a.m., Simmonds said.
Problems with boilers 11 and 13 caused feeder 7 on St. Thomas to go down for several hours Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Engineers were looking into the cause of the difficulties with feeder 7.
In additional to outages, Simmonds said WAPA had a higher than average volume of trouble calls over the weekend after the high winds blew trees onto power lines.
A crew was dispatched Sunday to expedite the restoration of power to areas affected by the damaged lines, according to a release from WAPA.
