A man was arrested Monday after a woman told police he repeatedly struck her in the face and threw her from his vehicle during an argument in Estate Donoe, St. Thomas, the V.I. Police Department reported.
Police identified the suspect as Demitri Burke, 21.
Officers were dispatched to Estate Donoe shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday after the woman reported that she had been assaulted by a former acquaintance, according to the VIPD police report.
The woman told patrol officers and detectives with the Domestic Violence and Special Victims Unit that she and Burke had been arguing when the confrontation turned physical. She said Burke struck her in the face several times and caused her to be ejected from his vehicle, the police report stated.
She sustained injuries to her body during the incident, according to police.
The VIPD Special Operations Bureau detained Burke on Monday and advised him of his rights. He was charged with reckless endangerment, simple assault, destruction of property, disobeying a lawful order, interfering with an officer disturbing his or her duty, and disturbance of the peace, the report stated.
No bail was set. Burke was booked and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing, it stated.
