The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (Authority) advises the public of a scheduled emergency outage on St. Croix to occur Wednesday, April 17, from 4 a.m. through 6 a.m. The purpose of the outage is to safely de-energize Unit 20 to allow WAPA plant personnel to safely perform maintenance on the T1 transformer.
Additional maintenance on the T1 transformer is required due to the increased load caused by the change in the operational configuration of the available generators. This outage is to prevent larger and more prolonged outages.
The emergency outage occurring in the morning will also impact the previously shared rotational outage schedule.
It is crucial to note that certain feeders continue to be exempt from the rotation schedule. These feeders serve critical lifeline customers, including the hospital and airport, ensuring the continuity of essential services.
The emergency outage scheduled tomorrow from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. will affect the following feeders, (approximately 9,583 customers):
Feeder 2A
Feeder 3A
Feeder 4A
Feeder 6A
Feeder 6B
Feeder 7B
Feeder 9B
Feeder 10B

As the Richmond Power Plant continues to manage load demand with reduced generation capacity, the Authority urges all customers to conserve energy as much as possible to support the stability of the electrical grid and keep more feeders operational throughout the day.
As previously noted in yesterday’s press release, some customers may experience water service interruptions during electrical outages due to loss of power at varying pump stations.
