Mathcounts Competitions Set for Thursday and Friday, Education Announces

The Virgin Islands Education Department announces the upcoming St. Croix Chapter Mathcounts Competition, set for Friday starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Research and Technology Park on the Albert Sheen campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.

Previously, the department announced the St. Thomas-St. John Chapter Mathcounts Competition, which will be held on Thursday, also starting at 8:30 a.m., at the 13D Innovation and Research Center on the Orville Kean campus of UVI.

Members of the Virgin Islands community are invited to attend these competitions, where students from public, private, and parochial schools will showcase their mathematical prowess, the department said in a press release. The Top 10 students from each district competition will proceed to the state competition, slated for March 21 on St. Croix.

Schools participating in the St. Thomas-St. John District competition on Thursday include Lockhart K-8 School, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School, All Saints Cathedral School, and Antilles School. Meanwhile, in the St. Croix District, participating schools on Friday will include Ricardo Richards PreK-6 School, Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School, Church of God Holiness Academy, and Good Hope Country Day School.

The department expressed its appreciation to the sponsors and coordinators in both districts. Together with the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, they play a crucial role in supporting Mathcounts programs, it said. The St. Thomas–St. John Chapter receives sponsorship from the Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, while the St. Croix Chapter is sponsored by the MidIsle Rotary Club, Research and Technology Park, and the Rotary Club of St. Thomas II, the release stated.
