Shots Fired at Level Up Service Station Leave One Injured

A St. Croix man has turned himself into authorities after an investigation revealed he fired shots at another man and injured him, the V.I. Police Department reported Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the 911 Emergency Call Center was notified that shots were fired and that one person was injured at Level Up Service Station in Estate Hogensborg in Frederiksted, according to the police report.

An ambulance and police were dispatched and discovered an injured man who was transported to the Juan Luis Hospital with a lower body gunshot wound. The victim was immediately taken into surgery and is listed in serious but guarded condition, the police report stated.

An investigation revealed that the shooter, Mitchell Webber Jr., was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim, and he started to leave the service station but turned around and approached the victim and fired a shot that struck and injured the victim. The shooter was caught on multiple security systems as he perpetrated the crime and fled the scene, the report stated

Webber, 24, turned himself in and was charged with attempted murder and his bail was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing at the Superior Court on Friday, police said.
