This Sunday the Junior Tri VI Committee will host the Grande Finale Junior Triathlon, a fun multi-sport event for kids of all abilities, ages 5 to 15, at 8 a.m., Sunday, May 7, at Cramer’s Park. Before the end-of-the-year demands increase just before summer break, the committee has planned the Grand Finale Junior Triathlon as its final junior event of the season. First-timers are welcome!
A triathlon consists of three segments: a swim, then a bike ride, then a run. Distances of each segment increase with age for all four age groups. Participants in the 5–6-year category will swim 25 meters, bike .5-mile, then run a .25-mile.
Athletes in the 7-8-year category will swim 50 meters, followed by a .5-mile bike, then a .5-mile run.
The 9-11-year age group will swim 100 meters, bike 1 mile, then run .5 miles. The final group, 12-15 year, will swim 200 meters, bike 3 miles, then run 1 mile. (Flotation devices will be available for beginner swimmers).
Race-day registration will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7:45 a.m. There is a $5 entry fee. Bikes are available to rent for the event.
