Ten non-U.S. citizens from Haiti who allegedly entered the territory illegally were apprehended Wednesday at the passenger ferry pier in Red Hook, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection report.
Ramey Sector Border Patrol agents received a report from the V.I. Police Department of a possible non-citizen boarding a passenger ferry at the Cruz Bay pier on St. John that was heading to St. Thomas on Wednesday, the report stated.
Border Patrol agents subsequently responded to the Red Hook passenger ferry pier on St. Thomas and arrested 10 non-citizens from Haiti, it said.
Meanwhile, in the Tortuguero area of the municipality of Vega Baja in Puerto Rico, Ramey Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 11 non-citizens from the Dominican Republic, after they landed on board a 25-foot yola, the report stated.
All the migrants will be processed and removed under federal immigration law, it said.
The Ramey Sector is one of 21 spread out across the United States. Encompassing Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, it is the only Border Patrol Sector located outside the continental United States. The entire border area is made up of coastline and its area of responsibility is made up of some 6,000 square miles of land and water area, including the 12-mile band of territorial water surrounding the islands.
