Project Promise, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth on St. Croix, has launched its new Empowered Me program. Empowered Me is an enrichment program designed to empower St. Croix youth ages 10 to 18 with the tools and attitudes they need to be winners in life.

Participants will attend engaging Saturday classes held in-person that will be meeting at Project Promise’s newly-opened downtown Christiansted facility. During each session, the age-group-specific classes and activities will center around seven programming pillars: Financial Literacy, Life Skills, Personal Wellness, Career Exploration, Creative Expression, Cultural Awareness and Community Service.

The program will serve over 50 young people, with each class limited to up to 12 students, which will ensure that each student is able to receive a great deal of individual attention. The Empowered Me program is open to all area youth. The first session will begin on Jan. 28.

Students will choose from the following classes:

  • Age 10-12: Money Basics, Creative Expression or My Health and Wellness
  • Age 13-15: Budget and Savings, Life Skills or Cultural Awareness
  • Ages 16-18: Investing 101, Community Service or Career Exploration

“We are especially excited to be able to offer age-appropriate financial literacy courses,” said Resa O’Reilly, Project Promise executive director and founder. “This is a much-needed topic that can have a significant impact on a child’s future.”

Registration for the Empowered Me is now open. Visit its website at PROGRAMS | project-promise (www.projectpromisevi.com)  to register a child.
