Virgin Islands Track and Field and Cross-Country Team member Mikaela Smith, competing for Austin Peay State University, ran in the ASUN Conference Championship in Huntsville, Ala., on Oct. 29. She ran a personal record of 18:32 in the 5K Conference race and was the first Austin Peay runner to cross the finish line.

Austin Peay’s head coach, Valerie Brown, said, “The highlight of this season has to be the leadership and the fearless competitive spirit of Mikaela. There’s no better way to end your last season than the way she has done. When you can get over half of your team to have personal bests at the championship meet, that stamps for a good day.”
