The Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center was illuminated at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, in honor of the 24 Virgin Islanders lost to COVID-19 and their families.
A press release from the hospital announced that Luis Hospital was joining President Joe Biden in a โnational moment of unity and remembranceโ for the lives of those lost to the virus by illuminating both Juan Luis and the entrance for Juan Luis North. Similar to lighting a candle, the illumination of the building represents hope and a brighter tomorrow, the release stated.
According to interim CEO Dyma Williams, โAt JFL, we continue to navigate our way through the sorrow brought on by the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic.”
“COVID-19 has drastically changed the provision of patient care,” she continued. “Despite this dynamic change, we are steadfast in our goal to provide compassionate care for every patient and their families during their most vulnerable time. To the families of the victims, we hope that the memories of the moments shared with your loved ones bring you great comfort. We also hope that you would view this eveningโs display as a small show of support from the JFL family to you during your time of mourning.โ
