Juan Reyes Melendez Dies at 92

Juan Reyes Melendez

Juan Reyes Melendez, better known as “Guango,” was born on Sept. 13, 1926, and died Sunday morning, March 3. He was a resident of 99 Estate Glynn.

He was preceded in death by his spouse, Luz Maria Santiago Reyes; parents: Juan Reyes and Maria Melendez; son, Jose Luis Reyes Sanes; sister, Eugenia Ortega; and brother, Diego Reyes.

He is survived by his daughters: Carmen R. Maldonado, Raquel Cotto, Luz M. Parrilla, Vilma I. Lugo, Nora I. Coronado, Nilsa Reyes and Maria E. Santiago; sons: Carlos Reyes, Juan Reyes Jr., Diego Reyes, Jesus Reyes and Daniel Reyes; grandchildren: Andres, Jose Luis Jr. and Nadya Reyes, Janelis and Carlos Javier Reyes, Alejandro and Samir Maldonado, Mayra, Jackie, Jose and Josue Cotto, Diego E. and Kimberly Reyes, Michael Reyes Merari, Eduardo Jr. and Leilani Rivera, Lisa I Perez, Joseph J. and Jonathan Luke Lopez, Raul Jr. and Emily Lugo, Jahaira, Yanira and Eduardito Cruz, and Jasmin and Eduardo Santiago; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Jayanne Figueroa.

He is also survived by his sisters: Carmen Navarro, Antonia Reyes, Gloria Reyes and “Ayi;” brothers: Jesus Reyes, Jose Reyes and Pedro Reyes; nieces and nephews: Angela and Gina Ortega, Jose Antonio and Rosa Navarro, Nancy Torres, Juan Antonio, Raul (deceased) Roberto Hiram and Edwin Alberto, and Luis Daniel Ortiz, Diana, Maria del Carmen, Juan and Armando Serrano, Maria Rivera, Isabel Rivera, Carmen Reyes and Manuel Reyes, Maria Elena, Juan Jose, Wanda and Sandra Reyes, Rene, Carlos, Gladys, Pedro Jr. and Carmen Reyes; and daughters-in-law: Norma Reyes, Maritza Reyes, Ana Felix Reyes, Mercedes Reyes, Herminia Reyes and Lucy Reyes.

Other survivors include sons-in law: Louis Maldonado, Jose Parrilla, Raul Lugo, Miguel Coronado, Jose Lopez and Rafael Santiago; brothers-in-law: Epifanio Navarro and Roberto Ortiz; sisters-in-law: Otelia Reyes and Francisca Reyes; special friends: best friend Ministro Hector L. Gonzalez, favorite neighbor Mrs. Jarvis, good neighbors Jose and Mery Rivera, Minister Samuel and Blanca Maldonado; caregivers: Ana Maldonado and Lolita Nieves; other friends: Ministro Jesus Nieves, Awilda and Reinaldo Acevedo, Rosa Garcia, Angelita Guzman, Ministro Carlos Encarnacion, Josefina and Vicente Garcia; special attendees: Staff at Continuum Care, Iglesia HUEC Zion; as well as many other friends too numerous to mention.

The first viewing will take place from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at James Funeral Home in Princess. A second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday, March 15, at the Iglesia Hermanos Unidos en Cristo Zion, Estate Castle Coakley. His body will be laid to rest at the Kingshill Cemetery.
