Man Killed in Golden Rock; Third STX Homicide in a Week

For the third time in less than a week, a shooting took a life Thursday on St. Croix, this time in the Golden Rock Shopping Center, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 26-year-old Jelani Pitman, police said.

According to the police report, at 6:45 p.m. Thursday the 911 center received a report that shots had been discharged in the vicinity of St Croix Nails in Golden Rock Shopping Center. At the scene, officers discovered a male individual, later identified as Pitman, lying on the ground in the doorway of the St. Croix Nails salon.

The victim appeared to have sustained several gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by ambulance where he died of his injuries and at 7:29 p.m. he was pronounced dead by medical attendants at the hospital.

Police urged anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau tip line at 469-475-3871, the CIB at 340-778-2211, the 911 call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.

Calls to Crime Stoppers that result in a case being solved may qualify the tipster for an anonymous cash reward.

On Tuesday a 45-year-old man was shot and killed in Williams Delight, and on Saturday night a man walked into the El Rincon bar in Frederiksted and opened fire, killing one man.
