Mapp Names New BIT Director

Gov. Kenneth Mapp has appointed Angelo Riddick to head the Bureau of Information Technology. Mapp ousted longtime BIT Director Reuben Molloy in August, temporarily replacing him with Jesus Caban. Riddick, who earned the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army, has extensive training and experience in managing and developing information technology applications for the military, including cyber security, Government House officials said in a statement Wednesday night. Riddick and his wife are relocating to the Virgin Islands from Washington, DC.

Governor Mapp, in charging Riddick with his new responsibilities, directed him to continue efforts towards a “paperless” government and to prioritize assistance to local law enforcement agencies in order to improve technology and access to information.

“The first assignment is to work with the Virgin Islands Police Department to upgrade, modernize and digitize records,” Mapp said.

Mapp said his goal is to integrate the information systems of the government and expand them to improve efficiency of operations, and to facilitate the exchange of information. He hopes to enhance the ability of the Virgin Islands Police Department’s officers to access critical information from the field, and to improve communications among various law enforcement agencies.
