Last year, Cultural Conquest Association Inc. adopted the Juanita Gardine Elementary School. It decided the best way to volunteer our services to the students and staff was to provide them with additional school supplies. Some parents may not be financially able to provide their children with all their necessary needs. In January 2016, Cultural Conquest was able to present Principal Barbara McGregor with supplies for her kindergarten and first grade classes.
In June 2016, it presented the top two sixth-grade students (Camila Laudat and Miajah Benton) with a backpack filled with school supplies. Because the students were so grateful, the organization is going to make this an annual tradition. In July 2016, it started its back to school supply drive. The goal was to present Principal McGregor with a minimum of 30 backpacks containing supplies. Shauna Williams, a dedicated parent from the Juanita Gardine Elementary School, was dedicated and worked hard to make this a successful drive.
On Sept. 6, 2016, with help from the community, Cultural Conquest was able to give the school 34 backpacks, two cases of notebooks for the kindergarten classes and approximately 45 pencil cases. Each backpack contained at least two notebooks, folders, filler papers, a pencil case, glue, crayons and more. Each pencil case contained at least two pencils, pens, erasers, highlighters, etc.
Students who may not have come to school fully prepared will now have those items for their use. In the next couple of days, the organization will also be donating 10 backpacks with supplies to the Queen Louise Home, and a box containing supplies will be donated to the Elena L. Christian Jr. High School.
