Shooting Victim Dies in Hospital

p>Juan Encarnacion, a 30-year-old resident of Estate White Lady, died late Tuesday after being shot in Frederiksted, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the second homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the seventh in the territory.

According to police, at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday the 911 emergency call center received a report of gunfire in the vicinity of the H&R Grocery Store on Queen Street in Frederiksted. Moments later, at 7:42 p.m., a second call was received, this one stating that an individual had been shot.

Officers responding to the scene were told the victim had been transported by a private vehicle to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital emergency room. At the hospital, officers were unable to speak with the victim because he was unconscious and being tended to by medical personnel.

The victim, later identified as Encarnacion, had sustained a gunshot wound and subsequently died of his injuries.

Police investigating the homicide urged anyone with information to phone the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024, 340-712-6037, call 911, or contact the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
