Update: Brookman Road on St. Thomas Reopens After Flooding

Heavy rains that fell overnight across the territory caused significant damage on St. Thomas. Brookman Road collapsed, leaving cars stranded in the water and closing the road, the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency said in a news release issued Friday morning. Around noon, VITEMA reported that the road had reopened.
There were no reports of damage or flooding on St. Croix, St. John or Water Island.
On the eastern side of St. Thomas, flooding was reported at Bolongo Bay. There were also reports of flooding, a utility pole sparking and cars stuck in the water in Nadir near the Bridge to Nowhere, and a mudslide at Mandahl and flooding in Bovoni. At Frenchman’s Bay, debris is in the roadway, the road is undermined and the hillside came down in someone’s yard.
On the western end of the island, a manhole cover came off on Kronprindsens Gade, there is flooding in Estate Pearl, and in Contant, there is flooding and one family in need of shelter.
On the Northside, trees are down along the road. The road is undermined at North Star Village. There are debris and boulders in the road at Solberg. Near the WGOD station on Crown Mountain, a landslide reportedly blocked about 90 percent of the road.
Honduras has flooding and debris. Veterans Drive is flooded and has debris on it. Mandela Circle is flooded. At Four Corners, there are debris and boulders in the road.
The worst is over, meteorologist Jesus Figueroa at the National Weather Service in San Juan said at 9:30 a.m. Friday. He said there will still be more showers and thunderstorms across the territory throughout the day, but not as heavy as those that happened overnight.
“In St. Croix, it is raining right now,” he said.
He said clearing should begin by Saturday.
The weather is associated with what remains of Gabrielle, which at one point reached tropical storm strength.
