Federal Charge on Innovative Bill Drops by Pennies

Since every penny counts in the current difficult economy, Innovative customers may well welcome the news that their bills will go down by a few cents.

Innovative said in a statement Friday that as a result of action by the Federal Communications Commission that affects carriers nationwide, Innovative Telephone, Innovative Wireless and Innovative Long Distance customers will notice a decrease in the Federal Universal Service charge starting Jan. 1.

For residential telephone customers and single-line business subscribers, the FUSC charge will decrease by two cents from $1.20 to $1.18 a month. Multi-line telephone business subscribers will see their bills drop by six cents from $1.72 to $1.66 per line.

Multi-line subscribers, however, may be subject to additional regulatory fees, Innovative said.

In addition to those FUSC rate changes, there will be a one-time adjustment to FUSC charges on January customer bills to make a correction to the FUSC charges billed in December. This one-time adjustment will cut the January bill by seven cents.

FUSC Surcharge Factor recovers the costs associated with Innovative Telephone’s contributions to the federal universal fund program. The government-mandated program is designed to help keep telephone service rates affordable for all customers in all areas of the United States. Effective Jan. 1, the FUSC charge drops from 17.4 percent to 16.1 percent.

Customers with questions regarding the change should contact the Innovative Business Office at 779-9999. Innovative’s business office hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
