V.I. Daily News Columnist Leads Peace Walk

Virgin Islands Daily News columnist Devin Robinson, who recently spoke at the Parent Conference on St. Croix, will remain in the territory an additional week in order to lead a Peace Walk. It will take place at 8 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 5. Participants are asked to gather at 7:45 a.m. to prepare for the walk, which is hosted by his company, Going Against the Grain Group. The group calls on the community to help sponsor the walk by donating water, refreshments and guided transportation. Peace and pro-life oriented signs and paraphernalia are encouraged.
Robinson stated, “When you see the number of murders in our territory approaching 50, we must know that a simple speech is not nearly enough. We are in crisis mode. The citizens must get out in the streets that are being taken over by thugs and show them that we want our streets back.”
The walk will begin at Red Hook Plaza and end at Emancipation Garden. Robinson will briefly address the community at the end of the walk and allow a few concerned citizens to do the same. All participants will be wearing plain white shirts to send a message of peace and unity across the island. This is the first of many steps Robinson will take to reclaim the tranquility of the V.I. community. “There are those who expect change and then there are those who change expectations. If we are displeased with what we are experiencing, we have to do something about it,” Robinson said.
A prior juvenile delinquent, he lost many friends to incarceration and death. He now advocates against violence, drugs and gangs. Donations are being taken at www.devinrobinson.com.
