Divi Carina Bay Resort Gets New General Manager

Jim HunterJim Hunter has been named general manager of Carina Bay Resort in St. Croix, according to a news release from Divi Resorts, the company which owns the St. Croix resort and eight others throughout the Caribbean.
Hunter, whose background spans more than 30 years in the resort industry both on Caribbean islands and the mainland U.S., fills a position left vacant upon the sudden death of Richard “Pat” Henry, who had been with the resort for four years. Hunter most recently was the general manager of the Sunset Waters Beach Resort in Curacao, a position he held for eight years.
Hunter will have top-line responsibility for daily operations at Divi Carina Bay Resort, as well as oversee guest services and marketing activities in the local market. Hunter describes himself as a "hands-on" general manager and enjoys the regular contact with his guests. He said he enjoys greeting each and every guest, escorting them to their rooms and stopping by their tables in the restaurant to personally assure they are enjoying their visit.
“We are looking forward to having someone with Jim’s experience and dedication to the hospitality industry at Carina Bay,” said E.J. Schanfarber, Divi Resorts president in Chapel Hill, N.C. “His enthusiasm and energy as well as his hands-on management approach will be a great addition.”
In his decades of experience, Hunter has worked with a number of prestigious hotels in various capacities. He oversaw a private party for 3,000 distinguished guests, which included a host of celebrities, during his time with the New Royal Towers at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. While at the Fairmont in San Francisco, Hunter’s stint as director of catering and conventions was highlighted by the Gorbachev Peace Foundation Conference in 1994. Hunter has also helped design such events as the AT&T ProAM Golf Tournament for Pebble Beach, California.
