Heat burns Public Works, 16-5

May 13, 2009 — Pitcher Angel Rosa scattered six hits and his offense pummeled the Public Works Department into submission as Wyatt Heat powers their way to a 16-5 ten-run mercy-ruled victory in the Governmental and Industrial softball league at the Renholt Jackson Sport Complex in Estate Whim.
A nine-run third inning explosion by the Heat proved too much for public Works to overcome.
Batting first, Public Works picked up an unearned run to take the early lead. The Heat responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run blast by Eric Perez to take a 2-1 lead. They would not trail again.
After Public Works failed to score in the top of the second inning, the Heat plated three more runs on a three-run home run off the bat of Freddie Carasquillo to extend their lead to four at 5-1.
Public Works closed the gap to 5-3 in the top of the third as Juan Burgos blasted a two-run home run over the left center field fence. That blast appeared to tick off the Heat, as they responded in the bottom of the inning with nine runs to all but put the game away with the score now 14-1. The Heat scored nine runs on a two-run shot by Eric Perez, a two-run double by Dwayne Harvey, an RBI double by Enrique Soto, RBI singles by Rosa, Kiarra Gonzalez, and Nasarrio Navarro, and an unearned run.
Public Works plated its final two runs of the game in the top of the fourth, both unearned and scored as a result of Wyatt Heat errors to then trail 14-3. The heat was equal to the task as they also plated two runs in the bottom of the inning on a pinch hit two-run home run off the bat of Warren Brooks for an insurmountable lead at 16-5.
That turned out to be the final score of the game because after Public Works failed to score in the top of the fifth, the umpires called the game by way of the ten-run mercy rule.
Angel Rosa got the win on the hill for the Heat while Danny Rosa got the loss for Public Works. Top batters for the Heat were, Perez, 2 of 3 with two home runs and two RBIs, Carasquillo, 2 of 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Warren Brooks was 1 of 1 with a two-run home run. For Public Works Burgos was 2 of 3 with a home run and two RBIs and three other players were 1 of 2.
