WWOZ New Orleans Will Come to August Sunset Jazz

Aug. 7, 2007 – The August 17th Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted promises to be one for the record books. WWOZ-New Orleans, the official radio station of the Jazz & Heritage Foundation, will be with us for the August events broadcasting Sunset Jazz and all the festivities "live" back to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. They will simultaneously live stream them onto the World Wide Web.
WWOZ's full "krewe" will be in attendance, partaking of the parties and sharing in all of the fun that is Freedom City-Frederiksted, St Croix. WWOZ's the Guardians of the Groove will be on site, broadcasting the music and sharing their Freedom City experience with the rest of the world.
Sunny 99.5FM-WVIQ, the Official Radio Station of Sunset Jazz, will have their "krewe" out in force as well. Sunset Jazz will be broadcast live throughout the territory, with the Sunny After Sunset guys right out there with the 'OZ krewe.
The arranger and bass man Marsvyn David has assisted the Frederiksted Economic Development Association Inc in putting together an impressive roster that will also include an extraordinary line-up of artists; some of the finest jazz musicians in the Caribbean will be gracing center stage.
The core band will consist of David on bass, Elton Chongasing on keyboards, Dale Harrigan on trumpet, Toby Derima on drums, Herman Lynch on percussion, Dan Dixon on guitar, Pikey Copemann on sax and Don Moors on vibes. Other featured artists performing will be: St. Thomas' trumpeter Dale Harrigan, flutist Stanley Jacobs, vocalists: Dr. Eugene "Doc" Petersen, Claudette "Adjoa" Hinds, Emogene "Blakness" Creese, Malcolm Evans, and Regina DeChabert-Petersen with Katalyss on background vocals, guitarist Senator Ronnie Russell, clarinetist Steve Simon and bassist Fred Williams.
FEDA will also present Harbor Night, St. Croix' favorite street party, to be held in conjunction with Sunset Jazz at 6 p.m., on Friday, Aug.17. FEDA will host vendors, street dancers, Mocko Jumbies and then even more music after the Sunset Jazz main stage closes.
Sunset Jazz and Harbor Nights, are signature events of FEDA, which is joined by community partners FirstBank VI, Sunny 99.5FM, WTJX-Channel 12 and the BeachSide Cafe' at SandCastle on the Beach Hotel in presenting Sunset Jazz to the community each third Friday of every month. FEDA also is joined by Travel Desk St. Croix and GoToStCroix.com as special sponsors of August's event.
Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted concerts are free, begin promptly at 6 p.m. and will be going until for this special event. Concertgoers are reminded to bring along folding chairs or blankets, as seating is at a minimum. Please be cool: no coolers. Refreshments will be for sale.
