Dealing with the Plight of the Homeless

Dear Source:
A sincere, Thank You Lorraine Quinton, for your powerful and heart- touching words to raise consciousness on the plight of the mentally ill in the VI's. You covered it all-with eloquence, truth and personal integrity. I, too, have great faith in our new de Jongh Administration in having acting Commissioner Chris Finch at the helm-to finally address these issues that have been evident yet ignored for far too many years.
Today, many of us on St. John are gathering statistics on the number of
homeless and mentally ill in need for our government's statistics for possible Federal grants and local program considerations. Your Open Forum testimony, Lorraine, provides us with exactly the emotional awareness needed to do this interaction today with respect and compassion.
We should all remember: "But by the grace of God, go I." Anyone of us can be 1 or 2 paychecks away from homelessness; and probably even more importantly, if we do not help those in great need-we miss out on the universal law of "Love one another". There are many reasons to finally feel hope for our many, ignored VI problems of the past 20 years- this one being at the top of the list.
