The Modern Music Feature CD is "The Road to Escondido," a collaborative effort from Eric Clapton and JJ Cale. Clapton has been a great admirer of JJ Cale for many years and has recorded a number of Cale's songs over the years. It is a fine CD, which combines acoustic blues and folk, and the songwriting is first rate.
The Indie Spotlight CD is "Running from Ghosts," the latest release from Texas guitar slinger Van Wilks. Van has played here in the Virgin Islands, including a performance at the 2005 Chili Cook-off on St. Thomas. The guitar artistry on this CD is great as expected, and he does a nice job on the vocal end as well.
We celebrate the birthdays of Paul Butterfield, Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations, reggae drummer Carlton Barrett, who played often with Bob Marley, New Orleans blues artist James Booker, Art Neville of the Neville Brothers, and Mike Mills of R.E.M.
We include music from Angelique Kidjo, who will appear at the Reichhold Center on Jan. 13. We also play music from Kacey Cubero, who will visit along with her band for their first Virgin Islands tour, playing numerous venues between Jan. 3 and Jan. 15.
