Brief: Telephone Outage Around Estate Thomas and Estate Ross

Dec. 9 — Damage to an underground cable this morning has caused telephone-service outages in downtown St. Thomas, said Innovative Telephone officials.
Underground cable damage at the telephone companys downtown facilities has disrupted service in the areas in and surrounding downtown Charlotte Amalie, Estate Ross and Estate Thomas, according to an Innovate news release. The outage affects an estimated 1000 to 3000 customers from Main Street, Hospital Ground, Barbel Plaza and the Roy L. Schneider Hospital to the Wheatley Shopping Center.
"Engineers are presently assessing the damage and will be able to determine the extent of the damage and the amount of time it will take for the lines to be repaired," the news release says.
The company asks customers to notify repair-center operators of their telephone outages by calling the 912 repair line.
"Innovative Telephone officials apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused," the news release says. "They will continue to update the public on the progress of the repairs."
