Public Works Offers Tips to Prepare for a Storm

Aug. 5, 2004 – With the hurricane season's first threat of a tropical storm just passed, the Public Works Department issued a reminder on Thursday for Virgin Islanders to take appropriate steps to secure their property before the next one looms.
A release from Government House advised residents "to clear loose debris, branches and waste, and secure outside furniture, play sets and other items around their homes and properties to avoid last-minute details when the threat of inclement weather is imminent."
Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said the department's emergency response plan calls for the positioning of heavy equipment in strategic locations territorywide "for timely response and clearing of roadways."
