Feb. 10, 2003 The Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, commonly known as "The Farm Bill," restores food stamp eligibility to legal immigrants who have lived in the U.S. as qualified aliens for a period of five or more years, according to a release from Human Resources Commissioner Sedonie Halbert.
The law becomes effective on April 1. Applications and change reports regarding the five-year requirement will be accepted after March 3. Persons meeting all requirements will begin receiving benefits on April 1.
