PISTARCKLE BENEFIT ALL ABOUT RODGERS AND HART

May 1, 2002 – Pistarckle Theater is presenting a two-nights-only musical revue, "Beguiled Again," this weekend as its annual fund-raiser event.
The production, featuring six performers, showcases the music of the legendary Broadway musical duo of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.
Trudy Tucker is the director and Sally Smith is the musical director for the show, which will have performances Friday and Saturday nights at the theater in Tillett Gardens.
The performers are Scottie Brower, Leigh Goldman, Linette Oliver, Mo Stanton, Tucker and John Womack. They'll be backed by Smith on keyboards with Dean Prince on percussion for Friday and Jake Adams on drums for Saturday.
Tickets are $75. Each evening begins with a pre-show and champagne reception at 6:30 p.m., to be followed by a dinner and silent auction. The top item to be auctioned is a Chevy Blazer from Caribbean Auto-Mart. There also will be a cash bar.
Proceeds will go to support Pistarckle's after-school children's program and summer camp and future productions of the not-for-profit theater organization.
This is the centennial year of Rodgers' birth, and theaters across the country are mounting productions featuring the music of the prolific and hugely successful Broadway show composer who collaborated with Hart as lyricist for 24 years before going on to work with Oscar Hammerstein II.
The Rodgers and Hart partnership resulted in the scores for 30 stage musicals and nine films. "Beguiled Again" was developed by Florida Stage as part of a summer season dedicated to the exploration of 20th century theater composers. Showcasing nearly 50 songs, both enduring standards and lesser-known works, it became the most successful production in the theater's history and was named Best Musical in statewide competition.
The revue has no storyline; rather, the songs are grouped in themes. One sequence evokes the frenzy of the production end of the movie business; another is set in the studio of a live radio show. One tune goes through a series of "tryouts" of its own with different sets of lyrics, finally emerging with the ones that worked — as "Blue Moon."
Other favorite show tunes in the show include "Falling in Love with Love," "My Funny Valentine," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "With A Song In My Heart" and of course "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," which has the show's title as its opening line.
For the Pistarckle production, reservations are requested for tables of four, six and eight persons. To reserve tickets or learn more, call 775-7877.
