Child Dies After Suffering Gunshot Wound on St. Croix

A 4-year-old boy died Thursday night after suffering a gunshot wound, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

The St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received notification of the incident at 7:01 p.m. Thursday, according to a VIPD police report. The child was transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency treatment but died despite lifesaving efforts.

According to the report, the VIPD’s Major Crime Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police said no determination has been made at this stage of the investigation.

The investigation remains active, police said.
