Nonprofit Island Green Living is pleased to announce that through a special arrangement with Visual Promotions, the organization will be collecting recyclables at the “Pour to Score” Beer Festival on Saturday, July 18.
This will be the second territory event where IGL recycling bins will be available on site, allowing attendees to divert aluminum cans, plastic bottles and clear plastic cups from regular trash. From June 28 – July 4, the organization offered recycling at St. John Celebration’s Knight’s Ville.
“What we’ve always believed is that people truly want to recycle and will take the opportunity to do so when presented; that bore out at the recent St. John Celebration. It is something we need to expand throughout the territory,” said Vice President and Interim CEO Dawn Henry. “The one thing we ask of ‘Pour to Score’ attendees is PLEASE don’t put food in our blue and gray recycle bins – it contaminates all the recyclables. We thank Visual Promotions for partnering with us to allow recycling at the event.”
“This is an important extension of our existing recycling program,” said President Harith Wickrema. “We thank our Interim CEO Dawn Henry for expanding the service Island Green provides to the community. These are materials that would otherwise waste away in the overburdened landfill and will now have an extended productive lifecycle.”
To date, Island Green has recycled 5.2+ million aluminum cans and nearly 170,000 lbs. of ocean-bound plastics, keeping these RESOURCES from polluting our land and sea.
Island Green Living has an esteemed 22-year history of sustainable programming and conservation in the US Virgin Islands. In addition to their aluminum and ocean-bound plastics recycling programs, the organization’s ReSource Depot thrift shop has kept more than a million pounds of building, household, clothing and other materials out of landfills. The nonprofit has worked closely on banning plastic bags, straws, toxic sunscreen, etc., improving food security and greening education with Planet Green Force.
