From public safety and education to infrastructure and community news, we cover the stories shaping the U.S. Virgin Islands. This week: the University of the Virgin Islands responds after being placed on show-cause status by its accreditor; another homicide on St. Croix comes as the territory intensifies its response to rising gun violence; the Humane Society of St. Thomas suspends animal intake over delayed government funding; and WAPA explains the mechanical issues behind continued rotating outages on St. Thomas and St. John. Host Adisha Penn recaps these highlights and more – there’s always something new on Consider the Source!

Hopefully every voter in the Virgin Islands takes the time to specifically look at each candidates position on dogfighting, pet overpopulation, and animal welfare too. There are quite a few high profile candidates that support this cruelty as “heritage” when cruelty is a useless characteristic, attributed only to humans. No one should claim that. And any candidate/incumbent that claims they’re concerned about the rise of gun violence and gangs without acknowledging and accepting the fact that dogfighting and other cruel sports are infinitely tied to it all as a money machine for trafficking both drugs and weapons, we have to question why? Among all the Democratic candidates I found only 3 that actually moved to do something. Take the time to Google the candidates and who cares about animal welfare and who will turn a blind eye for 4 more yrs!
