Gwendoline Jarvis-Soanes Dies at 95

February 2, 1931 – March 13, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gwendoline Jarvis-Soanes, who departed this life on March 13, 2026, at the age of 95.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, devoted church member, and a pillar of strength within her family and community. Her life was a testament to unwavering faith, deep love, and selfless service. She was a nurturing presence not only to her family but also to her many friends, always offering kindness, wisdom, encouragement, and support to those around her. Her beautiful legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever live on in the many lives she touched.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children: Joycelyn Sterling, Clarence Soanes (Clare), Dawn Marie [Arleen] Soanes, Velma Soanes, Olandia [Lynn] Lambert (Paul), Beverly Soanes, and Stevie Soanes; her brother Kenneth Andrews; her grandchildren: Vonette Burton, Junette Grant (Carlos), Cordell Sterling, Melissa Lambert, Kishma Benjamin, Melanie Green (Kennley), Reynelle Sterling, Kadeem Allen, Dawnette Wallace, Shanel S. Middlebrooks (Anthony), and Sa’veon Soanes; and her great-grandchildren: Taniya Benjamin, Trevon Abiff, Jael Grant, Tiana Abiff, Kayvion Green, Chase Grant, Caden Grant, Kingston Green, Ta’veon Soanes, and Adam Middlebrooks.


She is also lovingly remembered by her in-laws Gurlie Joseph and Deena Andrew; her nephews Clarence and Oral Andrew, Vance Adams, Eleston Adams, St. Elma Adams, Roy Soanes, Uriel Henry, Bobby Hurst, Noel Andrew, Denmoore Andrew Jr., and Trevor Andrew; her nieces Yvonne Adams, Valerie Adams, Cynthia Vangea, Genevieve Andrews, Rosella Andrew, Sylvannie Andrew, Gweneth Andrew, Deane Andrew, Carol Andrew, Jackie Andrew, Julie Andrew, and Natalie Joseph; and her godchild Paschal Williams.

Gwendoline also leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, friends, and caregivers including the Goodwin family, the Jarvis family, the Nicholas family, the Green family, the Barton family, Joshua Maillard and family, the Spencer family, the patrons of the Saturday Market, Janet Nicholas and family, Ms. Bryson and family, Leroy Jarvis and family, Julio Jarvis and family, Mavis Henry and family, Millicent Joseph and family, the Pastor and members of Faith Moravian Church, Dr. Robin Hughes of the Rural Health Clinic, the VI Healthcare Foundation, and many others too numerous to mention.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Wickliffe C. Soanes; her parents Wonford Jarvis and May Paul; and her siblings Rose Andrew, Sylvia Walters, Viola Adams, Daphne Jarvis, Edwin Benjamin, and Noel Andrew.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at Faith Moravian Church. Viewing will take place at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate her life and legacy.

A loving mother and faithful friend, she gave her heart freely, stood strong in times of need, and was always there with open arms for her family and all who were blessed to know her.
