The National Guard Hummers and the Warriors both crushed their opponents by way of the 10-run mercy rule Thursday night in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League. The night’s first game ended with the Seaborne Stealers forfeiting to the cellar-dwelling Dirty Dozen.
Hummers 18, Speak the Word 6
National Guard Hummers ace Roy Vialet scattered 11 hits and his team pounded out 18 runs as they beat Speak the Word Ministries 18-8 in five innings via the 10-run mercy rule.
It was the Hummers with 18 runs on 20 hits and four errors while Speak the Word finished with six runs on 11 hits and two errors. Vialet got the win for the Hummers and Steve Nisky got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Sylvester Blake (4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs) and Neal Davis (4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs). For Speak The Word, Norbert Pickering was 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Raphael Almonte went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Warriors 24, Wyatt Heat 2
In Thursday’s nightcap, Angel Soto, the Warriors’ top pitcher, allowed one of the league’s most ferocious offensive attacks just four hits as his team cooled Wyatt Heat 24-2. It was the Warriors with 24 runs on 22 hits and two errors, while the Heat finished with two runs on four hits and four errors.
Dexter DeSouza got the loss for the Heat. Top batters for the Warriors were Wilfredo and Alexander Rivera Quesada, who were both (4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs apiece). For the Heat, Carlos Nieves and Spencer Hendrickson were both 1 for 2 with an RBI.
