Moving to and working on St Croix???

Hi everyone,

We are a family of three, soon to be four, and want to move to St. Croix. The husband has extensive experience in the hotel and resort and construction industries.

Our children are 6 and we are having our second on April 1st, 2013.

Any suggestions or information anyone can offer would be terrific. We are thinking we want to live on the west coast for sunsets. But husband is a sailor and surfer and we both dive so any suggestions there would be great also. Thanks so much.

S & E
34thebeach

guess we will have to change that to 44thebeach soon...lol...

Considering move to St.Thomas

Good evening all from frigid Pennsylvania.

I am a single male considering moving to St.Thomas. My lifestyle is no frills and i do not have expensive tastes :0)
My immediate needs would include mainly:
Effcy or studio apt for 1 person, internet and maybe cable tv

What In The World Is Senate President Ronald Russell Up To?

Thank God, Governor John deJongh Jr. vetoed the $850,000.00 that the Senators claimed they need for an awards ceremony, repairs and the 30th Legislature. Why don't you use some of the missing $6 million 900 thousand dollars to resolve that problem?
Hey, PROBLEM-SOLVED, RUSSELL....

What in the world is Senate President Ronald Russell smoking these days?
He wants to ask the Governor for a cash advance.
Oh, let's see, Senate President Ronald Russell, the Virgin Islands economy is in bad shape.
THE REASON THE LEGISLATURE NEEDS THE MONEY IS BASELESS.

Proposed Coral World Dolphins

This is a response to the St. Thomas Blog of 12/14/2012.

I realize that you make money from the Coral World adverts on your blog an so would not want to put that relationship in jeopardy.

But I have issues with your recent comments about the proposed Dolphin habitat...

"Currently millions of cruise ship passengers a year that visit St. Thomas have to go to Tortolla to swim with the dolphins." Where did you get your numbers? Really, "millions of passengers"?

obtaining driver's astract from DMV

Compared to truly important issues on St. Croix, I realize this is totally boring and irrelevant, but I am desperate for advice. In order to get a driver's license in Pennsylvania, I need a driver's abstract from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles on St. Croix. I sent all the required documents with delivery confirmation, so I know they were received at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles on 10/30 - a month ago. I have not heard anything from The Bureau. I have contacted them repeatedly, electronically on their web site, and noone has ever responded to on of my messages.

The Legitimacy of the Virgin Islands Legislature

Frankly, the Senators are using the $850,000.00 to increase their budget under the dire straits of the VI economy.
The economy is not producing any profits from your lack of revenue-generating causes.
The Senators have no imagination and no clear vision for the future.
You are overspending once again at a feverish pace like you won the lottery.
You are giving out mostly salary increases at the worst possible time, don't you think.
You are breaking the backs of the citizens you claim you represent.
You are making the middle class and poor suffer at your expense.

A Profound Message for Senator Carlton Dowe

What does the "ITAL" signify?
Let me guess:
"Ignorant"
"Traitor"
"Arrogant"
"Liar".
Duly noted that your greatest concern only implies to your impishly self-interests and wayward agendas.
However, you've managed to stage an elaborate and bristling pantomime in front of your constituents.
It is all about YOU and damn if I care about the citizens of the Virgin Islands.
You are a Senator at the Legislature only to fulfill your insatiable appetite for self-gratification.
How EGOTISTICAL of you!!
The VI citizens don't matter until around election or re-election time, RIGHT!!

We need help from St. Johnian voters

As concerned citizens, we do not believe that the reported election results are accurate.

We have been calling registered voters and a number of people we talked to had problems or misunderstandings with the ballot. We feel that if we can show even one district 's voting results were incorrect, we have a good chance of getting a new vote.

We are extremely distraught at the multitude of voting irregularities and are very concerned that a large number of votes were not counted in the general election.

Fact or Fiction

Back in the day, there was a claim that the former governor, Roy Lester Scheneider purchased Italian-style marble for his kitchen with FEMA Funds......
Senator Celestino White's son was the apparent triggerman in the double homicide on Polyberg Hill because the homeowner, at the time, refused to pay money he owed for drugs. He failed to pay his debt. Isn't that why Alvin Morton ,who was in and out of Senator Celestino Whites' office at the Legislature, was murdered because he told someone that he trusted all about it.....

"The Convention Capital of the Caribbean"

Why is it so hard to designate The Virgin Islands, "The Convention Capital of the Caribbean"......
I am convinced that would, in turn, give the local economy an added boost to the gross receipts tax and hotel occupancy taxes as well.....
Provided that WAPA does its job by ensuring electricity and water for the guests at the hotels, bed & breakfast establishments, etc.
Does the Virgin Islands Government want to initiate the boost to get the economy going well, you've got to start somewhere first?

Silfred Joseph, the Saint Thomas inventor , pursued his dream of patenting his invention around 1998 or 1999. But, what most people may never even notice about him the most is his innate abilty to make you laugh. He always said the funniest things and cured me of all my miseries the moment I met him. Laughter is the best medicine after all.

This is pretty much the underlined message I was left with after meeting with Mr. Warren Mosler.

The two articles I submitted and posted in the Media, Speaking For the Silent Majority and Refurbish the Hotels Already Here on St. Croix, to address our need to increase the housing accommodations for guests and travelers and the need to create jobs for our residents, I forwarded to Mr. Mosler. He responded and invited me to meet with him to discuss the Bed & Breakfast proposal, which he expressed to be a good idea.

Tires on the roadside

Who are the persons throwing car tires on the roadside? I counted 88 tires May 3rd between Great Pond and Divi Hotel. Unbelievable! The businesses should not sell any tires to people unless they bring the old tire. Maybe then we do not have this problem. Any other solutions?

Advertising standards for the Source

I just have to ask about the offensive and extreme advertisement from the Remnant Ministries currently displayed on the Source website. Predicting "an end to the world as we know it" and "you'll be left behind if you are not with us" are old and tired and false claims that have been used many times over history. Was this a legitimate advert on the Source or a hijacking? I think most people agree that religious extremism causes many of the problems of the world. Let's not add to it. Thank you

Response to B&B Feedback

Those that feel the big hotel resorts are the way to go, as a conservationist and an environmentalist, my recommendation is to refurbish the closed hotels that already exist here on St. Croix, ex: Carlton Hotel, Clover Crest Hotel, Grape Tree Bay Hotel, St. Croix By the Sea Hotel, etc.

This proposal isn't a cure all, but it is an immediate approach to address housing accommodations for guest and travelers and creating jobs for the residents.

A B&B regulatory system establishing uniform standards throughout the industry would ensure a sustainable enterprise.

Speaking for A Silent Majority

Dear Mr. Mosler,

It is public knowledge, I have spoken out about the underlying intentions of many investors and developers here in the Virgin Islands, especially on St. Croix.

I really am not aware to what your true intentions are in regard to your investments or to the projects you have under development, but there are many questions.

This financial and social realignment period of time here on St, Croix has opened up opportunities, in an abundance.

vi politics

The citizens of the VI are the ones who built the government that now is damaging their lives, Fred.
How do you expect the Citizens to implement change.
Bring on the Dept of Interior. Look around this semi
beautiful Island,, see the trash, the crime, the waste.
Why don't mention the black majority of this Island standing up to the gangbangers, and taking back what they steal from all of you?

PS. was on a plane back with a couple of senators the other day......The Kingfish is still alive.

Question about childcare

Hi,
Our family is new to St. Croix. We have a 3 year old and are having difficulty finding childcare (part time) for him. We are looking for either a childcare center or church daycare. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

The Truth Behind JFL Hospital's "Magnet Program"

Whose being misled? o Juan F. Luis Hospital's CEO,firing Licensed Practical Nurses and CNAs is the path to becoming a magnet hospital. The only person's to be replaced in the quest for "Magnet" status would be the CEO himself and the board according to the requirements for "Magnet" status.

"Magnet hospitals should be nursing institutions
1.	At least 51% of the board of trustees should be nurses.

2.	The CEO of the hospital should be a nurse.

Magnet hospitals should seek to provide the best care possible based on the latest research

Tax Return

Here is a question. Has anyone else besides me not received their 2010 Tax Return as yet. Yes, that is 2010 not 2011. By the way I am getting ready to file my 2011 taxes very soon. I have contacted the tax office a number of times and up to this day, February 29, 2012 I have not been able to get a definitive answer as to the status. Last two time I call I received the same reply, which was "I cannot give you an answer, I have to look for something, give me your phone number and I will call you back." You read correctly, the last two times, which were three weeks apart.

Senate President Ronald Russell Decision.....

Frankly, it did not come as a surprise that the Senate President would renege on his promise to name the Senators responsible for the $6.9 million dollars ROBBERY.....
Perhaps, the senate president is following orders from the federal and local authorities investigating the mismanagement or rather pilferage of the millions of dollars in question......
Are the senators given an opportunity to return the money back where it properly belongs?
Since, they are at the top of the totem pole while others below them are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law?
