Armed Gunmen Steal Vehicle Near Boardwalk

A man returning to his car early Saturday morning in downtown Christiansted was robbed and his vehicle was stolen by two armed men, the V.I. Police reported.

At about 3 a.m. Saturday, police were notified of the incident, which took place in a parking lot in Christiansted. The theft is being investigated as a first-degree robbery.

The victim told police that he was walking to his vehicle parked in the lot near the west end of the boardwalk in Christiansted. He said he had gone to pick up his roommate. When he got into his vehicle and was about to drive off, two men with their faces covered with bandanas, one brandishing a handgun, ordered him out of his car.

The victim said in a web post that he tried to drive away, but the assailant reached through the window and put the gun in his face.

The attackers took the man’s wallet and cell phone and drove off in his vehicle, a convertible Chrysler Sebring with the license plate number CER-144.

No one was physically injured in the attack, police said.
