Hunt Is On for Assault, Domestic Violence Suspect

Jose AlmesticaPolice on St. Croix are on the lookout for Jose Almestica, 36, on suspicion of aggravated assault and battery, unlawful entry and domestic violence. Almestica is alleged to have broken into his girlfriend’s residence and attacked her in March, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to police, in March, Almestica knocked on his girlfriend’s door and when he did not get an answer, entered the residence by climbing over the balcony and getting in through the door. Inside the home Almestica allegedly grabbed his girlfriend from behind and pulled her to the floor.

The victim screamed and struggled and managed to get away. When police arrived, Almestica had fled the scene.

Jose Almestica is 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with a light brown complexion, brown eyes and brown close-cropped hair. He has a tattoo on his neck and frequents Estate Fredensberg.

Police continue to search for Almestica, and are asking the community’s assistance in locating him. Police remind the public that assisting or harboring a wanted suspect in any way can result in criminal prosecution. Anyone who has seen Jose Almestica, or knows his whereabouts, is asked to call the Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit at 712-6026, 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
