Memorial Day Classic Highlights Sunday’s 9-Race Card

The Memorial Day Classic one-mile run will highlight TRAXCO’s Memorial Day races on Sunday at the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack. Six of the St. Croix’s top thoroughbreds are set to do battle in the eighth race on the card, led by the highly touted, $75,000 claimer, Slevin.

Slevin has not raced since being surprised in the second leg of the Virgin Islands Triple Crown Challenge by St. Thomas’ record breaker, Bud White. His return to the track will be met by some good competition in stable mate and former champ, El Real Madrid, who is also making a return to racing after being sidelined by injuries for an extended period of time, another former champ Carse, and Berberis, who has been in top form as of late. Erie’s run, if right, can make some noise in this field and look for the old man of the group, Puerto Rican Emblem, to be charging hard with a late run.

The post time favorite will undoubtedly be Slevin and rightly so, but El Real Madrid, depending on his fitness level after the long layoff, and Berberis, if he can run back to the form displayed in his last race at the RDJ, could pull the upset. Fans should expect a huge race from Slevin though.
