Police ID Saturday Homicide Victim

Details began surfacing Monday regarding the death of a man in a shooting Saturday night in Christiansted.

Police on Monday identified the victim as 26-year-old Shawn Ian Drew.

According to police, officers were dispatched at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday to the Morena Bar located to the rear of the Watergut Shanty to investigate reports of shots fired and a man down. Arriving on the scene they found victim, who was later identified as Drew, on the ground and unresponsive.

Witnesses told police that another victim was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police said the second victim is a 37-year-old man. Reports indicated the man had been in surgery, and was expected to recover.

Information gathered at the scene by detectives indicated that several masked men came to location of the shooting and fired their weapons, wounding one man and killing another. The investigation by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau is ongoing, the VIPD news release said.
