Waterline Work to Detour Queen Mary Traffic

Work on the Whim Waterline Rehabilitation Project will curtail traffic on a portion of Queen Mary Highway on Wednesday and completely close it Thursday, requiring a detour of traffic in the area, the Water and Power Authority announced.

Virgin Islands Paving Inc. will perform a waterline tie-in to Estate Whim this week on Queen Mary Highway, the island’s traffic major artery, as work continues on the project.

On Wednesday the eastbound lane of the highway will be closed at the Whim/Concordia intersection. Thursday, both lanes will be closed to traffic, and all cars will be rerouted through Estate Concordia.

The contractor will be crossing the road with the waterline to Estate Whim. Construction hours will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No water interruptions are expected during this period, WAPA said in its news release.

WAPA asked motorists to drive cautiously and follow all traffic directions.
