Police Make Quick Arrest in Fatal Shooting

Jamal Armstrong
Jamal Armstrong

Jamal Armstrong, a 19-year-old resident of the JFK housing community, was arrested and charged with homicide in a Saturday shooting that left one man dead.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives arrested Armstrong, also known as “Trigger” or “Trigger Man,” after the shooting in Estate La Grande Princess took the life of 20-year-old Kyle Greenidge of Estate Work and Rest.

Detectives detained Armstrong as a person of interest at about 4:30 p.m. and arrested him minutes before 8 p.m. Saturday. He was charged with first-degree murder, held on a $1 million dollar bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending his advise of rights hearing.

Police were alerted to the shooting just after 10 a.m. Saturday. The 911 Emergency Communications Center received calls requesting an ambulance for a gunshot victim. Police and EMT’s arrived on the scene and the victim was taken to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital to receive medical attention, but the victim died at the hospital.

The preliminary police investigation indicated that shots were fired from a vehicle driving by the area where the victim was. Greenidge was struck at least once.

St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell congratulated the officers for the quick arrest.

“While I am disappointed that another young man has lost his life to violence, I am humbled and extremely grateful for the excellent police officers I work alongside," Howell said. "The fact that this case was solved and an arrest was made within hours is evidence that the VIPD is home to some of the best in law enforcement. The officers will continue to work this investigation to assure that a solid case is brought to trial and justice is served."

It was the 11th homicide in the territory in 2011.

Police said anyone with additional information regarding this fatal shooting can call detectives at 712.6075, 712-6037, or 712-6077, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.

How dare you claim to be a "source". You have already tried and convicted this young man without any evidence/ I am disgusted by the lack of quality in your reporting. You have "scraped" other inaccurate news sources such as the St Croix Avis; this is lazy and irresponsible.

Had you truly investigated this, you would have found that Mr. Armstrong, who is not 19 and does not live at JFK, was in fact in the company of his aunt at the time the shooting occurred.

I tell you, there are consequences to this sloppy reporting, the least of which is slander.

Hey there Pastor John...how about you quit your day job since you want to be a journalist and a lawyer so badly. Intstead of critisizing a man's job, how about you direct your attention to the amazing parenting skills Mr. Armstrong's parents/guardians have. You should be blogging about topics like: Dear St. Croix Parents, "when are you going to stop letting your children run around uneducated, wild with no basic home training skills? Also, when will the community stop glamorizing the "shotta" mentality and start enforcing right from wrong?" It's YOUR IGNORANCE AND COMPLACENCY towards the bigger picture that your kids follow. Therefore, lead by example and stop letting the community destroy itself. Stop defending CRIMINALS just because you're buddies with them, and start putting your foot in their a$$ and demanding MAXIMUM punishment for their senseless crimes. Oh wait, I forgot, you only care when it's your child being murdered.

Dear who ever beezy u is.....Mr.Armstrong is innocent if u read the newspaper there is no evidence againsnt Mr.Armstrong. Second of all Mr.Greenidge is not a angel he was arrested on dec.2010 for drugs possession to burglary which was him and others suspects charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm attemped burglary and vehicle tampering. Which they was arrested on saturday dec.18.2010 at 12:45 a.m. WHAT U HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT MS/Mr BEEZY?Mr.Armstrong was charged without evidence. Ms/Mr Beezy you said Pastor John have to quit his day job well Partor John wrote the true... Im 100% with him.READ THE NEWSPAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!MR.ARMSTRONG JUST FINISHED HIS HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENNCY CERTIFICATION AND COMPLETED THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE U.S. MARINE CORPS.MR.ARMSTRONG IS NOT A "SHOTTA"HOW U CALLED IT......ARMSTRONG IS NOT A CRIMINAL.PASTOR JOHN IS TRYIN TO HELP A YOUNG MAN FROM PAYING A CRIME HE DIDNT DO.....MATTER AFFACT HE WAS IN THE COMPANY OF HIS AUNT AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING OCCURRED....MS/MR BEEZY GET UR FACTS RIGHT CAUSE GREENIDGE WAS NOT THAT INNOCENT...THE NEWSPAPER/ST.CROIX SOURCES NEED TO GET THE RIGHT INFO AND DO THERE JOB....BEEZY IF UR CHILD HAD MURDERED SOMEONE I KNO U WOULD OF SELL UR A$$ TO HELP HIM OUT U WOULD OF DIG THE BIGGEST HOLE...REMEMBER GREENIDGE WAS ARRESTED FOR A UNLICENSED FIREARM WHICH WAS CONFISCATED A SEMI AUTOMACTIC HANDGUN FOUND INSIDE THE CAR...GREENIDGE HAD A RECORD.... SO THINK BEFORE U WRITE NONSENCE!!!!!!ALOT OF PEOPLE IS ACUSSING A YOUNG MAN THAT IS INNOCENT FOR THIS CRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever Lola. The point is kids are killing kids. What are you doing to prevent this? Also, spell checking your work makes you sound smarter and not as ignorant. Trust me when I tell u..even the best people make mistakes. Maybe that's the case here, however, officers don't just make unlawful arrests. STX is not LA in the 1990's. Open your eyes. Forget the "facts" you live off in the newspaper, what's going to matter is the facts in court. God bless STX. Such a beautiful place going to waste. tsk tsk

my point is that the newspapers have different story....and police arrested and charged a man wid out evidince just because ppl said it was him....police so called made a quick arrest dat a lie...kids killing kids ppl need to realized that this is a war thats been goin on between gangs....like i said armstrong is innocent until they prove he did it....so stp pointing finger to a young man dat is innocent and nobody have prove dats he did it.....

Breezy, it's amazing how you are currently playing judge/jury. The facts are a youngman is dead and another is fighting for his life. Both families are grieving and it's distasteful of you trying to blame parents for not teaching their kids what is right from wrong. Why hasn't the government of the VI create programs that will assist these kids in becoming something of themselves other than living the street life. This war between the street life and life in general has been going on for years. The police need to start doing their job correctly and stop being paid to look the other way and pin this crime to the first name they hear. Sit and think before you write and quit assuming the worse, leave the fighting for the court and it will show that Mr. Armstrong is innocent.

thnk cruzian....beezy jus need to stp tryin to b a lawyer when all he could do is write s**t....Frist of all he is talkin bout mr.armstrong parents skills y u dnt write a F**kin letter to the goverment and ask him to do something for our community since mr.armstrong parents dont have good skills parenting....like i said from the beging of this case i kno mr.armstrong is innocent and he cant b charged wid frist degree murder cause he didnt do nothing.....however the pd need to do there jobs and stp goin by he said she said......right now the really criminal could b on the lose and mr.armstrong in jail.....PD STP TRYIN TO PUT UR JOBS SO EASY BY GOIN WITH WHAT PPL SAY CAUSE U ALL KNO ITS A WAR THING GOING ON FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS KNO SO U ALL NEED TO GET FIRED FROM U ALL STUPID JOBS CAUSE U ALL IS NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING.....PLUS THERE IS A KID DAT GET KILL AND ONE DAT WAS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE.....PD UR ALL JUS QUIT U ALL JOBS.....THE GOVERNMENT ALWAY TALKING BOUT CRIMES AND DIS AND THAT WILL MR.GOVERNMENT IS TIME FOR U TO ACT AND STP TALKIN S**T AND DO SOMETHING FOR UR COMMUNITY
