Spring Gut Road Improvement in Design Phase

Design work has begun for improvements to Spring Gut Road, Route 84, on St. Croix, Public Works Commissioner Darryl Smalls announced Monday.

An $893,468 government contract was executed Sept. 24 with Stanley Consultants, Inc. for the work.

The project involves the design of roadway improvements that begin at the south junction of South Side Road, Route 62, and extend north about two miles to the existing paved road at the Estate Tulipan Welcome entrance. Improvements include the design of a paved two-lane, rural roadway complete with a bike path.

Residents can expect to see survey activities conducted by Caribbean Land Surveyors and Antillean Engineers Inc. beginning immediately and lasting through the end of November. Final design documents are scheduled for completion by the end of 2013.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to John Paul David, construction program manager at the Office of Highway Engineering in the Department of Public Works on St. Croix. His phone number is 1-340-773-1290.
