Health Department Hosts Symposium on Breast Cancer

The Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program will host a cancer symposium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Bennie and Martha Foundation Conference Center, at the V.I. Cardiac Center on St. Croix, according to a press release from Health Commissioner Julia Sheen. Registration will begin at 9 a.m.

“We hope this symposium will enhance breast cancer awareness in the territory and provide continuing education on breast cancer for health care professionals,” Sheen said.
Noted cancer specialist Dr. Bert Petersen will be one of three panelists to make presentations under the theme, “Where Are We Now?” Dr. Petersen’s presentation, titled "Breast Cancer: Separating Fact from Fiction,” will be followed by Dr. Erole Hobdy, who will speak on “Novel Adjuvant Therapies for Breast Cancer,” and by Dr. Andre Galiber, who will speak on "Breast Imaging: Screening and Diagnosis."
