McKenzie's Way Women and Girls Symposium and Fun Day Set

The St. Croix Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) invites women and girls to its Second Annual McKenzie’s Way Women/Girls Symposium and Fun Day scheduled for8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. at the school. The theme for this year’s event is “A Woman’s Network for Lifetime Empowerment: From Blooming Youth to Progressive Woman.”
The symposium is planned to help mothers, girls and women in general understand their roles within the community and to introduce them to resources available throughout the private and public sectors, according to event organizer Cenita Heywood. McKenzie’s Way is named in honor of Carolyn McKenzie who, while a counselor at CTEC, was responsible for organizing several social programs at the school level and in the community for students and adults such as the annual Men’s Carousel.
Planned topics and activities for the symposium and fun dayinclude: nutrition and health, tie-dye shirt making, wellness and fitness, yoga, baking, domestic violence, upholstery, blood pressure testing, a self defense seminar, the American Red Cross, volunteerism and services, storytelling, public speaking, charm school, caring for your pet, scented soap making, bullying, self-esteem and etiquette, and teen talk. There will also bearchitectural drafting, auto care, gardening and agriculture, carpentry and wood crafts, jewelry making, origami, pottery making, dancing (Zumba, belly and electric slide), piloting and careers in aviation for women, arts & crafts, dominoes and chess competitions, personal financial management, face painting and balloon hats, drug prevention and entertainment (disc jockey, singing and guitar playing).
Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners in the chess, dominoes and hoola hoop competitions.
Participation is opened to the first 150 pre-registered women and girls. Childcare services are available and must be pre-arranged.
