School Focuses on Tuskegee Airmen During Black History Month

 

Students and staff at Claude O. Markoe Elementary School are engaged in Black History and V.I. History month activities designed to highlight the accomplishments of Virgin Islands Tuskegee Airmen Herbert Heywood and Henry Rohlsen. The theme for the observance is “Heroes of the Past and Present.”
During the month students will be decorating doors and bulletin boards, writing essays, reciting poems and composing rap songs in honor of Heywood and Rohlsen.
Fourth and sixth grade students will meet and greet family members of Heywood and Rohlsen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, In the cafeteria. Students will learn about the feats of the famed 994 African-American Tuskegee Airmen.
