
McDonald’s officially launched its annual McHappy Day campaign on Wednesday, Oct. 21, as part of a global campaign to raise funds to benefit seriously-ill children and their families. The money raised on St. Croix and St. Thomas will benefit the USVI Therapy Association (TADA). Last year, McDonald’s raised more than $2,400 for TADA; the goal this year is to double that amount.
All six USVI McDonald’s will be selling McHappy Day “paper hands” for $1 that customers autograph and display them in the restaurant in support of the cause. The campaign will run through Nov. 19, which is when all participating McDonald’s will promote the association’s mission by donating $1 from the sale of every Big Mac that day directly to TADA.
The 2010 poster features two-year-old Derrian “DJ” Huggins Jr. who has been receiving assistance from TADA relating to spina bifida. DJ undergoes a rigorous schedule of speech, occupational and physical therapy every week. He is a happy little boy whose life is made easier thanks to the support of family, friends and the TADA organization.
“We are very happy to raise money for TADA to help them in their efforts to provide therapy and assistive devices for disabled children in our communities. Our goal is to raise over $5,000 and help twice as many children as last year,” said Sharin Jennings, marketing manager for McDonald’s USVI. “Simply by buying a hand or enjoying a Big Mac on Nov. 19, we can all make a difference to many young lives.”
