McDonald’s restaurants, operated by Arcos Dorados on St. Thomas and St. Croix, has reached a total of 1,778 Big Mac sandwiches sold as part of a campaign to raise funds for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
From Jan. 16-22, all restaurants operated by Arcos Dorados in 19 countries will contribute 50 cents per each Big Mac sold, separately or in combo, for the solidarity fund operated by the International Red Cross. Big Macs sold through Friday, Jan. 22, will benefit the cause.
The collection is part of a series of corporate initiatives, among which is the voluntary contribution of employees to a bank account opened for that purpose. Arcos Dorados will double the value by matching the deposits made by its employees.
These donations are the result of the alliance between Arcos Dorados, the company that manages McDonald’s brand in the Caribbean and Latin America, its franchisees and Latin American representations of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Currently, McDonald’s and Arcos Dorados do not operate restaurants in Haiti, but employ many Haitian employees in different countries, especially in the Caribbean.
