First Time Local Author Signs Books at Undercover
Wm. Tom Johnson, D.D.S. will be signing his first book at Undercover Books & Gifts, “Sailing the Dream: A Dentist, A Belly Dancer and A Talking Parrot.” It will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1. While “Sailing the Dream,” Johnson and his wife, Milie, fell in love with St. Croix. They were intrigued by its historic
sugar plantation ruins and drawn to the tropical lifestyle. After sailing up the island chain from Venezuela in 1986, the couple finally dropped anchor in 1997 after living on the s/v Serena for more than 15 years. Their island home is aptly named “Sailor’s Rest.”

The book is a true account of an Oklahoma kid born under the sign of Aquarius who develops a burning desire to someday see the clear blue water of the Caribbean. His dream turns into a most unusual adventure with amusing encounters and exciting tales of actual sea stories. The author
puts you at the helm trying to save the boat during a horrific hurricane. In addition, there is a 40-year review of how the cruising experience over the decades has changed through the author's eyes while living in the Caribbean. It tells how this experience changed this couple’s lives in
becoming "island people.”
