Whim Museum Night of Gospel Features Tony LeBron

St. Croix Landmarks Society will present A Night of Gospel, the third offering in the 2011 Summer Concert Series held at Estate Whim Museum. In its fifth season, World Music Under the Stars features family-friendly, outdoor concerts that explore the cultural music traditions of St. Croix’s Afro-Caribbean, Latin and American heritage.
Tony LeBron, a St. Croix native, is the 2009 winner of the Gospel Music Channel’s “Gospel Dream Competition.” His stunning, dual-language performances of Bruce Hornsby’s "The Way It Is" and "I Surrender All" catapulted him to the crown.
He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School before his family moved to Florida. After graduating from high school, he followed his dreams and studied voice at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. His singing career includes performing on cruise ships and as a backup singer with Christian singer Amy Grant and the group The Katinas. He has also served as a member of the Maranatha Praise Team, leading worship across the nation in the Promise Keepers Crusades."Tony has an incredible voice and that’s obvious to anyone who hears him. But what I love most about Tony is his love for Jesus and his heart for people. Tony is the whole package!" said Natalie Grant – CCM recording artist.
His self-titled debut CD of ten original tracks was written by his friend John Katina and produced by Dove Award winner Kenne Belle. Since winning the Gospel Dream competition, LeBron has traveled and performed throughout the United States and Latin America. His performances are filled with a wide range of musical styles ranging from gospel and inspirational to Latin.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and attendees are invited to come early to enjoy food prepared in the historic cookhouse and stroll through the Museum Store. Don’t miss a unique opportunity while at the Whim Museum to visit the Family Tree exhibits of the Knight, Plaskett and Smith /Latimer families. The performance will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $30 for under cover, $15 under the stars and $5 for children 5 to 12 years old and can be purchased at the Whim Museum store or by calling 772-0598.
