Documentary Film to Have Its Premiere at Government House

March 20, 2009 - Cane Bay Films LLC will hold the World Premiere of the feature-length documentary film "Sugar Pathways" by writer, producer, director and native U.S. Virgin Islander Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz. He was the producer of the award-winning documentary film "Vieques: An Island Forging Futures." There will be a gala premiere at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 21, at Government House, Christiansted.
The film tells the story of the unwilling migration by Puerto Rican families from the small Caribbean island of Vieques to the V.I. It recounts their will to survive, integrate and contribute to the culture, economy and politics of the Islands through personal interviews, new and archival footage, and historic documentation. It is narrated by actress Lauren Vélez of the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series "Dexter."
