Violet C. Marrero
May 21, 1932 – July 6, 2026

Violet C. Marrero was born on May 21, 1932, on the beautiful island of Virgin Gorda, where she spent her early years surrounded by the love of family, the strength of faith, and the support of a close-knit community. On July 6, 2026, she peacefully answered God’s call at her home with her devoted daughter by her side.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, other loved ones who have gone before her, her beloved grandson, Jahkhoy Monsanto, and her cherished great-grandson, Kayshawn Whitick.
Affectionately known as “Vio” and lovingly called “Nana,” Violet was the heart of her family. She was known for her kindness, quiet strength, wisdom, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. Her home was always open, her smile was welcoming, and her heart had room for everyone. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, taking immense pride in watching her family grow through the generations.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted daughter, Joycelyn Monsanto; her sons, Alvin Marrero and Aben Marrero; her beloved grandchildren: Vance “Kareem” Monsanto Jr., Vinell Monsanto Jackson, Venise Monsanto, Jouean “Shamara” Jacobs, Oheem Rabsatt, Michael Jahbari Carrethers, Natalie “Libya” Mertens, Peter “Kenya” Carrethers, Stephon A’aben Carrethers, Jahmal Akimbi Phillips, Monifa Marrero Braithwaite, Aben Marrero Jr., Aaron Marrero, and Misha Marrero.
She is also lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Kianna Monsanto, Kiniqua Monsanto, Kasim Upchurch, Jh’nell Monsanto Jackson, Alyson Monsanto, Marciano R. Matta, Ashanti J. Schulterbrandt, Ataysha K. Jacobs, Jamorie Rabsatt, Zaza Rabsatt, Amour Carrethers, D’Asia Carrethers, D’Kai Carrethers, Avontte Carrethers, Mi’Kayala, Kiyrus Barthlette, Almira Brathwaite, and Mishorn Payne. Her grandson Jahkhoy Monsanto and great-grandson Kayshawn Whitick preceded her in death.
She is further survived by her great-great-grandchildren: K’Dale Brathwaite, K’Niah Brathwaite, and Khamani Upchurch.
Violet also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, cherished friends, and loved ones whose lives were forever touched by her kindness, generosity, and love. While too numerous to mention individually, each held a special place in her heart and will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.
Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we give thanks for the extraordinary life Violet lived. Her legacy of resilience, grace, compassion, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to live on through the many lives she nurtured and inspired.
Her gentle spirit, warm embrace, and steadfast faith will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. While we mourn her passing, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose love knew no boundaries and whose memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration.
