A man in the Aureo Diaz Heights housing community was taken to the hospital by private vehicle when he was shot in the leg, the V.I. Police Department reported.
Police on St. Croix are investigating the nonfatal shooting that occurred at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the preliminary police report, a 22-year-old victim told police he was sitting on his porch at Building 3 when two armed men walked up, pointed their guns at him and demanded his money. The victim told police that he yelled out for his brother, who was inside the apartment, and when his brother appeared, the suspects began firing shots toward them.
Police said at least two vehicles sustained gunshot damage. Police have detained two "persons of interest," and are continuing to investigate, according to the department’s news release.
